Year 1

Reading is a key area of a Year 1 child's learning.  We regularly read aloud to the children to stimulate their imagination and expand their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word.

The children also do guided reading to help them develop reading strategies which assist decoding and construct meaning. I guide the children as they read, talk and think their way through the phonics and comprehension.

Reading at home with your child is really beneficial. It helps so much with their confidence. It helps them develop stronger social skills, vocabulary and writing skills, and helps them to better understand and process more complex ideas.  So thank you for all your ongoing support.  The books we send home are linked to your child's phonic ability and one also to build an enjoyment of reading which is key at this age.

Every child loves a bed time story, so please continue to model reading to your child by sharing a book together.

Thank you.

Together we will help your child have a passion for reading and create a language-rich environment from which they can learn.
